A political analyst says the leaders of NATO member states taking part in the bombing campaign in Libya are guilty of spilling the blood of many innocent Libyans.

“NATO's heads of governments have blood on their hands; they have lots of bloods on their hands because they have killed a lot of men, women and children,” Michel Chossudovsky, director of Center for Research on Globalization in Montreal, told Press TV.

Chossudovsky also described the Western military alliance's aerial bombings of the North African country as “criminal conduct” and violations of the rules of international law.

The analyst further pointed out that NATO's alleged purpose in launching war on Libya was to enforce a UN-backed no-fly zone and protect Libyan people but he said that the reality has been “turned upside down.”

“[NATO's campaign] is presented to the media as a humanitarian operation,...we are told that war is peace, and the lie becomes a truth,” he said.

He also noted that the Western military alliance has already deployed ground forces in Libya in order to establish a “proxy Libyan government... modeling Libya, as a sheikhdom, as in Saudi Arabia, or the [Persian] Gulf states.”

On Wednesday, South Africa's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe called for the International Criminal Court in The Hague to probe possible human rights violations committed by NATO forces in Libya.
